Talk on Heywood Sumner

Adrian Green, Director of Salisbury Museum, will give a talk on artist and archaeologist Heywood Sumner on Friday 12th May 2023 at 7.30 pm at Avonway Community Centre in Fordingbridge. The talk is in aid of Fordingbridge Museum.

Jon Ingham, Chairman of the Friends of Fordingbridge Museum, said, “Heywood Sumner lived a few miles from Fordingbridge until his death in 1940. He was an extraordinarily talented artist who was influenced by Ruskin and William Morris and was a key figure in the Arts and Crafts movement. He was also a renowned archaeologist and helped develop the modern scientific method that archaeologists use today. Despite being kept busy as an author, archaeologist and artist he still found time to play an active part in the life of his local community. This talk will throw a spotlight on a past resident of Fordingbridge who deserves a higher profile.”

Tickets at £10 are available from Fordingbridge Museum, Fordingbridge Bookshop or www.ticketsource.co.uk and include light refreshments.
